Olympic athlete Jessica Ennis-Hill to write children's books

UK track and field athlete Jessica Ennis-Hill, who won gold at the London 2012 Olympics and a silver medal in Rio last summer, is at work on a children's book series titled "Evie's Magic Bracelet."

The first title in the series, "The Silver Unicorn," will be published in March, with three more books due out before the end of 2017 and three more in 2018, announced The Bookseller.

In the first story, Evie will receive a magic bracelet from her Grandma Iris in Jamaica.

Ennis-Hill, who retired from athletics last month, already has a major book under her belt, having released an autobiography, "Unbelievable," in 2012. She is co-writing the new series with children's author Elen Caldecott.

"I have so many great memories of being a little girl," Ennis-Hill said, as reported by The Bookseller. "My friends and I spent lots of time exploring and having adventures where my imagination used to run riot. It has been so much fun working with Elen to go back to that world of stories and imagination and share it with readers."

"Evie's Magic Bracelet" will be published by Hodder Children's Books, which also recently published a picture book by Olympic runner Mo Farah. "Ready Steady Mo!," which encourages kids to exercise, was released in July, and more children's books by the athlete have been teased for 2017.

Gymnast Simone Biles and fellow female medalists of the Rio 2016 Olympics, meanwhile, are the subject of a children's book illustrated by Nikkolas Smith that was published earlier this month. "The Golden Girls of Rio" focuses on Biles, swimmers Katie Ledecky and Simone Manuel, and shot put gold medalist Michelle Carter, following their paths to glory.
