QUEZON CITY, Philippines — The Sandiganbayan dismissed the 723 million plunder case against former Department of Agriculture Undersecretary Jocelyn “Jocjoc” Bolante who is involved in the multi-million peso fertilizer fund scam.

According to the Sandiganbayan Second Division, the prosecution failed to present evidence against Bolante and that the prosecution failed to present a new case information.

Some congressmen were offended by the Anti-Graft Court’s resolution.

Bayan Muna Partylist Representative Carlos Zarate said, “Siguro talagang it’s sad day dun sa anti corruption campaign natin, dahil alam naman natin, ito ang isa sa pinakamalaking corruption case that rocked the Arroyo administration before, tong fertilizer scam.”

(It’s a sad day for the anti-corruption campaign, because we know this case is one of the big corruption cases that rocked the Arroyo administration before, the fertilizer scam.)

While Kabayan Representative Harry Roque expressed, “Ako po’y malungkot na malungkot dyan dahil kung maalala niyo hinabol ko po yan si Jocjoc Bolante at nilabanan ko yung kaniyang petition for asylum.”

(I’m saddened.  If you remember, I  went after Jocjoc Bolante and fough against his petition for asylum.)

The Ombudsman will not drop the case and will try to appeal it to the Supreme Court in case their motion for reconsideration is denied.

“If we feel there’s a ground for it, otherwise it would be an exercise in futility. If we believe that the risk or the chances of going up is not possible,” Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales said. — Mon Jocson | UNTV News and Rescue
