ONE Championship previously announced its ONE Women’s Atomweight World Grand Prix, which will feature eight of the organization’s top female athletes.
Now, The Home Of Martial Arts has confirmed all four quarterfinal matchups and a World Title main event for its all-female card on 28 May, which is titled ONE: EMPOWER.
That main event is a clash between reigning ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan and #2-ranked strawweight Michelle Nicolini.
Xiong last defended her strap by defeating Tiffany “No Chill” Teo at ONE: INSIDE THE MATRIX in October.
Meanwhile, the following first-round matchups have been set for the ONE Women’s Atomweight World Grand Prix:
Denice “The Menace” Zamboanga vs. Seo Hee Ham
Meng Bo vs. Ritu “The Indian Tigress” Phogat
Stamp Fairtex vs. Alyona Rassohyna
Itsuki Hirata vs. Alvse “Lil’ Savage” Anderson
“The draws are out, the stage is set. I will be ready, I am confident, and I shall roar,” wrote Phogat, a resident Singaporean and Evolve MMA standout.
“It’s time to train harder and feel even hungrier [sic] than ever before. Let’s go. P.S: Let the best girl win. All the best, amigos.”
The winner of the tournament will earn the silver belt and then challenge reigning ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion “Unstoppable” Angela Lee for the gold later in 2021.
Like Phogat, Hirata expressed excitement and hopes to make her country proud.
“The long-awaited tournament finally begins,” the Japanese star wrote.
“All the athletes may be a level above me, but I will bring the belt back to Japan. I’ll be sure to give it my best with your support. Let’s go #TeamJapan.”
