One person has been killed and another wounded in a shooting incident in Las Vegas

A gunman barricaded himself inside a bus along the Las Vegas Strip, prompting a partial closure of the busy boulevard.

The standoff began after a shooting was reported on Saturday on Las Vegas Boulevard in the heart of the Strip near the Cosmopolitan hotel-casino.

He later surrendered to police.

Two people were taken to a hospital, one of the victims has since died.

"This incident is being treated as a barricade at this time. There is no credible information that there is a second suspect," Larry  Hadfield, a spokesman for Las Vegas Metro Police said earlier.

"The shooting incident happened on the bus. We had one single shooting incident with two victims. Both were transported to the trauma centre and one is deceased."

Guests have been told to stay in their hotel rooms for their own safety.

The incident took the morning  after three raiders, wearing animal masks,  stormed the Rolex store at the nearby Bellagio hotel, leaving tourists fleeing for their safety.

Police said they believe the armed man on the bus is the only suspect and that they have ruled out terrorism or any relationship to an earlier robbery nearby that shut down a part of the Bellagio hotel-casino.
