While life in the UK remains in a state of 'new normal,' resilient Brits are finding comfort in dreaming about their next holiday destination, once the coronavirus outbreak is under control.

Where do they most want to visit later in the year? A new survey has revealed that the Scottish Highlands is the most wanderlust-inducing location.

Topping the list of UK destinations where confined Britons are planning their first post-isolation trips, we couldn't agree more with the spectacular Highlands (the location of Country Living's epic rail holiday) being the most sought-after spot.

Home to adorable Highland cows, the breathtaking Jacobite steam train and mighty Ben Nevis, there are countless reasons to visit (and revisit) this wild and remote part of Scotland, when things are back to normal.

The research, from holiday rental marketplace Snaptrip, revealed the other dream trips people are planning to take when it is safe to do so, with Snowdonia coming in second and the Yorkshire Dales named the third most lust-worthy UK beauty spot.

Looking at its internal data to reveal the places where Brits have been searching for inspiration for breaks in the last month, Snaptrip found that Cornwall was the fourth most popular destination, while the Lake District came fifth.

The Gower, Shetland and Bath were other beauty spots to make the top 15 list.

Research also found that there has been a 30% rise in searches for holidays in 2021 since the government told people to stay at home on 23rd March.

When asked which places they most longed to visit, 45% of Britons said they would like to go to the beach or somewhere along the coast, while 28% wish to go into the countryside and 17% prefer a city break.
