The more you can get out of your makeup, the more money you save and the fewer plastic bottles end up in landfills.

In The Know’s Lisa Azcona has got the perfect hack to revive this everyday beauty staple. Most makeup users have had run-ins with gone-too-soon, clumpy, crusty mascara tubes. This super easy hack to bring dried-out mascara back to life will keep your wallet happy and get you out of a last-minute jam.

“There’s many reasons why your mascara may have dried out,” Lisa explained in the video. “Not sealing it completely, overpumping which causes excess air to enter the tube or simply because it’s just been lying around your beauty bag for way too long.”

However, there is a caveat. If your mascara is expired, it’s best to toss it out, upycle it to save animals or recycle it.

All you’ll need for this hack is eye drops or contact lens solution. These products help to rehydrate the product.

To start, Lisa took an old mascara and rubbed the wand across the back of her hand. The stroke was gray and fading. It was the perfect candidate for the hack.

“Grab eye drops or contact lens solution and squeeze a few drops into the mascara tube,” Lisa said. “Then, shake it up. Now you should get a few more uses out of it.”

She used the mascara wand to brush the back of her hand and the stroke was darker, richer and more pigmented. A winner!

Lastly, Lisa added: “Be careful not to use water as an alternative, as this can cause bacteria to make its way into your mascara.”
