A petition started by a Singaporean woman aims to ban self-proclaimed pick-up artist Julien Blanc from ever entering the city-state.

Titled “Keep Julien Blanc and Real Social Dynamics (RSD/RSDnation) out of Singapore”, the petition on change.org was started on 14 Nov by a Charis Mah.

Addressed to Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, the petition has attracted slightly over 4,000 signatures as of Monday evening.

“Many of Julien's tips and suggestions given to others via his videos or social media accounts involve actions which break Singapore laws against sexual harassment and violence,” wrote Mah.

Although RSDnation has not listed Singapore as a destination for Blanc’s seminars, Mah is concerned that Blanc “may attempt to enter Singapore in the near future”.

Blanc’s seminars in Australia were cut short and his visa revoked after a wave of protests against his controversial ways of teaching men how to pick up women.

Blanc’s methods involve physical and emotional abuse, including choking women. Many have used social media to slam his teachings as misogynistic and promoting sexual violence.

In Britain, protesters and politicians have appealed to have Blanc banned from entering the country, while Brazil rejected his visa application.

“To allow this man or the group that he works for into Singapore legitimises sexual assault and predation, and sends a message that women are playthings or objects without agency. His presence here would be a clear danger to our women and a destructive influence towards our youth,” added Mah.
