  • Oprah Winfrey has set up 26 billboards in and around Louisville, Kentucky, demanding swift justice for Breonna Taylor's death.

  • Each billboard features the same image of Taylor that Winfrey used on the front of the September issue of O, The Oprah Magazine, marking the first time Winfrey herself did not appeare on the publication's cover.

Oprah Winfrey is continuing to demand justice for Breonna Taylor.

Today, OprahMag.com revealed that Winfrey along with O, The Oprah Magazine had organized the setup of 26 billboards in and around Louisville, Kentucky, posted not only to commemorate the slain emergency room technician but also to demand that the police officers who shot and killed her in her Louisville home in March are arrested and charged accordingly.

"Demand that the police involved in killing Breonna Taylor be arrested and charged," the billboards read. They also display the website untilfreedom.com, an intersectional social justice organization that aims to encourage others to address systemic and racial injustice in America. Taylor was killed days ahead of what would have been her 27th birthday. Since her death, ongoing protests have taken place across the country urging for justice and an end to police brutality.

Winfrey and her magazine's billboard campaign follows the publication making history by honoring Taylor on the front of their 2020 September issue. For the first time in the magazine's 20-year history, someone other than Winfrey appeared on the magazine's cover. Winfrey explained her decision to honor Taylor and bring more awareness to her case in an Instagram post when the cover first dropped.

"Breonna Taylor. She was just like me. She was just like you. And like everyone who dies unexpectedly, she had plans. Plans for a future filled with responsibility and work and friends and laughter. I think about Breonna Taylor often. Imagine if three unidentified men burst into your home while you were sleeping. And your partner fired a gun to protect you. And then mayhem," wrote Winfrey.

"What I know for sure: We can’t be silent. We have to use whatever megaphone we have to cry for justice. And that is why Breonna Taylor is on the cover of @oprahmagazine. The September issue honors her life and the life of every other Black woman whose life has been taken too soon."
