Orchard Road to close on Saturday evening for fashion show

Heads up drivers who are planning to head to Orchard Road on Saturday evening – part of it will be closed from 7pm to 10:30pm for a fashion show.

The stretch from ION Orchard to Ngee Ann City will be made inaccessible to motorists to stage the opening event for Fashion Steps Out @ Orchard 2012 (FSO).

The Orchard Fashion Runway also marks the first time a road in Singapore will be transformed into a fashion runway.

Instead of moving vehicles, more than 150 models will sashay down the 600m stretch  – touted to be the longest runway ever in Singapore – decked out in the latest collections of both local and international brands.

The one-hour show is expected to draw a crowd of at least 10,000 and will kick off at 8:30pm.

Car parks in the malls along Orchard Road will not be affected during the road closure.

Public transport operator SMRT announced earlier that seven of its bus services will be affected. Services 77, 106, 167, 171, 190 and 700A will be temporarily diverted from 8:00pm to 10:00pm.

Formerly known as Fashion Season @ Orchard, the FSO festival is a six-week event which will be packed with runway shows, workshops, bazaars, shopping deals and more. It starts today and will end on 29 April.
