Oscar Awards 2012: Red Dresses, Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford & Angelina Jolie's Right Leg!

Lights, camera, action... It's Oscar night 2012! The big news from the red carpet? Well, red for one - Emma Stone, Michelle Williams and Natalie Portman all went for the bold hue. Pastels also rocked with Cameron Diaz and Berenice Bojo working the on-season trend.

Emma Stone's dress drew comparisons to Nicole Kidman's

We had fashion highlights: Jessica Chastain's hand embroidered Alexander McQueen dress. We had controversial choices: Emma Stone opting for a red Giambattista Valli dress that was reminscient of Nicole Kidman's Balenciaga Oscar dress from 2007 [above]. And twenty-year-old Shailene Woodley showed she's a brave fashionista-in-the-making with a high-neck, long-sleeved Valentino Couture number that caused some controversy. 'I'm obsessed with it!' she said on the red carpet.

Rooney Mara pulled a fashion shocker by wearing - wait for it - a white Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci gown with silk pannelling. 'I only just decided on it this morning,' she said of picking it out from a rail of choices.

Angelina Jolie's right leg caused a flurry

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt went matchy-matchy — her in a black velvet Atelier Versace gown slit up the thigh, him with Legends of the Fall hair. One rumour was flying around that Ange had put all her choices on pieces of paper in a bowl and got Brad's mum to pick out what she should wear. Commitment! But it was her right leg that generated the most buzz on the night. During the ceremony, her thigh-baring pose was mimicked by The Descendants screenwriters Alexander Payne, Nat Faxon and Jim Rash when they accepted their award and the appendage has even inspired its own Twitter profile, @AngiesRightLeg.

Gwyneth Paltrow gets our best dressed vote in Tom Ford

Gwyneth Paltrow has given us the first look at Tom Ford's Autumn Winter 2012 collection. The designer showed a select group of press during London Fashion Week but, true to form, he didn't allow any pictures to leak online. So thanks Gywneth - her white dress with a cape buttoned on was Ford's finale dress - and uber Oscar appropriate. Especially with that sleek ponytail. She might have just pipped best dressed for us.

Michelle Williams' red/coral/pomegranate dress

But then again, we also loved Michelle Williams in a ruffled Louis Vuitton dress with a peplum, which apparently took 300 hours to make. But what colour was it? Even Michelle didn't seem to know. 'Maybe coral? Or Pomegranate?' Whatever... we love!

So what's your favourite dress? Scroll through the gallery of dresses above and let us know...

2015 Nissan Murano aims for the style-forward crowd

Nissan says its 2015 Murano crossover, only the second major revamp of the car since it debuted in 2003, draws its design cues from the “age of future space flight.” That’s probably taking it a little far, but the new Murano, based off the 2013 Resonance concept vehicle, is an exceptionally lovely machine, all fluid, curved metal on the outside, and flowing, soft-touch materials on the inside. Certain kinds of comfort and charms that were unheard-of outside of premium vehicles five years ago have definitely trickled down, and reached a kind of design apotheosis with this car.

Volkswagen brings new (ish) Jetta to New York along with Golf Sportwagen

With its new President and CEO of America, Michael Horn, on stage in New York after just 100 days on the job, Volkswagen debuted its 2015 Jetta. You'd be forgiven for noticing little differences compared to the outgoing model, and in the words of Horn himself, the changes are indeed subtle. The most notable of those subtleties is the all-new 2.0 liter turbo diesel motor, offering 45 mpg highway and a modest increase of 10 hp. For VW, diesel is where it's at.

With Vantage GT, Aston Martin races below $100,000

Aston Martin is going downmarket, sort of. The 2015 Vantage GT, a sport-styled variant of Aston’s legendary flagship car, draws style and performance tips from their GT4 race cars, which will be running in North America this year. It’s also priced at $99,900, which shows that the market for these kinds of consumer sports cars has boomed in recent years.
