Movie buffs, mark your calendars: your 2017 Oscars party will be on Sunday, February 26. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the timetable for the 89th Oscars on Thursday, one day after it announced that it had invited a record number of artists to join the body, the majority of them women and people of color. The 683 invitees, 46 percent of them female and 41 percent ethnic minorities, will be joining the exclusive body at a time when it is facing scathing criticism at the lack of diversity within its ranks and among both Oscar nominees and winners. Voting for nominations for the film industry's top awards will run from January 5-13 for the academy's 6,200-odd voting members. Nominations will be revealed on January 24. Those up for Oscars will gather for the traditional nominees' luncheon on February 6, while final voting will run from February 13 until February 21. The Academy said its Governors Awards -- an annual dinner to celebrate the recipients of several special honors -- will be held this year on November 12. The 89th Oscars, which traditionally close Hollywood's awards season, will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on February 26 and will be televised in more than 225 countries and territories.
