KUALA LUMPUR: Outgoing Vietnamese ambassador to Malaysia Pham Cao Phong today made a courtesy call on Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at the Parliament building.

Pham, who has completed his two-and-a-half years of service in Malaysia, will leave for Vietnam on March 16.

In a statement, Zahid said he extended his appreciation to the envoy for his cooperation during his time here.

"Both sides have agreed that their warm ties should be strengthened," he said.

Zahid said one of the major initiatives by Pham was facilitating the signing of strategic sharing between the two countries in Aug 2015.

Malaysia and Vietnam formed diplomatic relations on March 30, 1973.

The ties cover various sectors such as trade, investment, education, security, defence and relations between their people.
