Over $29,000 worth of e-vaporisers and accessories seized by ICA, HSA
SINGAPORE — The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) and the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) seized 63 electronic vaporiser sets and 2,368 accessories last week.
The total value of the seized items was $29,460, said the ICA and HSA in a joint media release on Wednesday (18 September).
On 9 September, ICA officers at Changi Airfreight Centre detected a consignment of 31 parcels carrying 27 sets of e-vaporisers and 400 pieces of related accessories, all of which are prohibited in Singapore.
HSA then conducted home searches on 12 and 13 September and seized additional sets of e-vaporisers and accessories. Eleven suspects are assisting the authorities in investigations.
The suspects had made online orders of e-vaporisers from overseas sellers, and declared them as toys in an attempt to evade the law.
Busting e-vaporiser peddlers
According to the release, the HSA conducted ground operations from January to August this year and had stopped the illegal activities of 43 e-vaporiser peddlers operating in Singapore.
Those convicted of peddling e-vaporisers can be fined up to $10,000, jailed up to six months, or both. The use, purchase or possession of e-vaporisers is also an offence, punishable with a fine of up to $2,000.
Members of the public are advised not to purchase any e-vaporisers, including over the internet, to be brought into Singapore. They should refrain from using e-vaporisers and discard any e-vaporisers they have in possession.
