Over 5,400 renovation projects get green light to resume works

BCA noted that new applications to resume renovation works will be approved in two days provided “the submission is in order”.

The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) on Wednesday (3 June) announced that it had cleared and approved more than 5,400 residential renovation projects to resume work.

It noted that new applications to resume renovation works will be approved in two days provided “the submission is in order”.

Once approved, contractors can immediately resume work with the construction workers residing in private residential and HDB premises.

“These workers have all completed a 28-day Stay Home Notice during the circuit breaker period, and do not need to undergo a COVID-19 swab test prior to commencing work,” said BCA.

Contractors with workers residing in dormitories will have “to wait for the dormitories to be cleared by the inter-agency task force before the workers can be released for work”.

BCA cautioned that some renovation works may still be delayed even as it has given its approval.

This comes as there are contractors whose workers reside in Malaysia and are unable to travel to Singapore, while some are unable to secure certain materials due to supply chain disruptions.

“All construction workers (be it those residing in private residential / HDB premises or those in the cleared dormitories) will continue to be subject to periodic COVID-19 testing after they start work,” said BCA.

Workers that have tested positive will have to stop work immediately, while their close contacts will be quarantined.

Meanwhile, BCA shared that they have simplified the process for those applying to resume construction works by doing away with the submission of renovation contract as well as photos of suspended renovation works.

Contractors will only need to provide the address of the renovation site, information about the workers involved and the nature of work.
