There are only a few days left before Season 2 of popular first-person shooter Overwatch 2 comes to an end.

And now that the third season is almost here, Blizzard Entertainment has given players a quick peek at some things to look forward to.

One of the most notable changes is the reintroduction of Overwatch Credits, which was the game’s signature in-game currency, giving players new ways to earn and spend.

This was revealed in a recent post on Wednesday (1 February).

Overwatch Credits was the currency in the original Overwatch used to unlock cosmetics like skins and sprays, as well as voice lines, emotes, victory postures, and highlight intros. Players were able to earn them through in-game challenges and opening loot boxes.

These were discontinued after the release of Overwatch 2, but remaining credits were stored as 'Legacy Credits', which can be used to spend on items in the shop.

“In Season 3, we’re bringing back Overwatch Credits, which had been previously shown as Legacy Credits and been unearnable in Overwatch 2,” they said in the post.

The new season will give players the chance to earn 1,500 Credits for free through the Battle Pass, while the premium track gives them an extra 500 Credits.

“We are also adding more uses for your Credits so you can choose from many potential rewards,” the statement continued.

The in-game shop will make legendary-tier skins, and seasonal event mode skins from Overwatch available in the hero gallery for purchase, at a lower price of 1,500 Coins or Credits.

“These changes mean all players can earn a legendary skin of their choice each season from the Hero Gallery skins just for playing normally and without needing to make any purchases,” the post read.

The premium currency, Overwatch Coins, will still be present in the game. Coins can be bought with real money to purchase the Battle Pass and additional cosmetics.

These were done in an effort to address player complaints about high skin prices and the inaccessibility of skins and cosmetics to casual players, with most saying that they have to grind for months to earn Overwatch Coins before they can get anything from the store.

Additionally, Blizzard is looking to add even more methods to spend, and that they would be keeping an eye on player input to see what improvements are successful and which ones are not. That being said, it may still be a while before newer cosmetics are within the reach of casual players.
