Pahang royal couple steals limelight as National Press Club Malaysia golf tourney returns with a bang
One hundred and three participants, a royal couple, and a whole lot of smiles.
That pretty much sums up the National Press Club (NPC) Malaysia Golf Tournament that took place at the Tropicana Golf and Country Resort in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, this morning.
The event was graced by the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, and his consort, Tengku Ampuan Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah – both avid golfers.
The royal couple, unfazed by the attention, stayed true to their down-to-earth personalities as they interacted with the other participants, obliged in taking pictures, and even performed a duet to the tunes of “To Love Somebody” by the Bee Gees, and “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai” by Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik. Tunku Azizah later sang “One Moment in Time” by Whitney Houston.
Rastam Ariffin Ahmad Khairuddin emerged victorious in the men's category, scoring 41 points, while Ruth Cabalero won the women's title with 37 points.
NPC president Datuk Ahirudin Attan was delighted that the event returned after a hiatus of 10 years.
"We got a good number of supporters, sponsors, and participants. We were also able to get the royal couple on board, who not only played, but also sang for us.
"It is through these events that we bring those from the business fraternity, government, and journalists together."
The event was supported by the Youth and Sports Ministry, while the event partner was ShekinahPR. The tournament was sponsored by Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd, Datuk Nelson Fernandez, Universal Fitness & Leisure Sdn Bhd, CitaGlobal, Weststar Maxus, Nestlé-Milo, Mazda (Bermaz Auto), FN Initiative, Ducati Malaysia, Carro Sdn Bhd, Malay Mail, MSTGolf, Kami Shampoo, Titoni, Lavand, Car & Co, Dorsett, Cameron Valley, Datuk James Selvaraj, AdamPrimus Chartered Accountants, Tupperware, Allianz, and Camotional Cooling x AX Film.
The NPC Golf Tournament is the second sporting event organised by the NPC this year, following the inaugural 'Jom Jalan with NPC 2024', which was held on June 2.
