BANGI: Pakatan Harapan (PH) is targeting at least over 60 percent voter turnout for the Balakong by-election.
Its candidate Wong Siew Ki however conceded that this would be a challenging target to achieve as normally more people would come out in droves to vote in general elections rather than by-elections.
“It would be a hard level to achieve like the recent 14th General Election (GE14), as usually in by-elections, less voters come out (to vote). Over 85 percent voters turned out for GE14.
“I urge everyone here (in Balakong) to come out and vote. Please do not regard this (by-election) as unimportant as the (electoral) outcome would be for everyone here.
“Our target of voter turn-out, if more than 60 percent, that would be very good,” she told reporters after the launch of PH’s manifesto for the Balakong by-election here today.
She is set to take on MCA’s candidate Tan Chee Teong in the by-election on Sept 8.
