PUTRAJAYA: Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) today submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission (EC) to object the latter's decision to stop distributing copies of the supplementary electoral roll to political parties.
PAN Youth election director Muhd Taqiuddin Che Man said he was disappointed with the EC's decision as the supplementary electoral roll is important for all political parties.
"Previously, it was a practice for the EC to distribute copies of supplementary electoral roll to all political parties for checking purposes.
"However, in a letter dated April 18, EC secretary Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh had instructed all state EC directors to prohibit the distribution of supplementary electoral roll copies, both books and CDs, to all political parties in Malaysia.
"We regret the decision as the information of voters in the 14th General Election must be checked and validated," he told reporters after sending the memorandum to EC, here.
He said such an act would make it difficult for political parties to carry out their responsibilities because the only way to check the voters' information is via the supplementary electoral roll which is displayed at government premises.
"We urge the EC to lift the ban and give the rights to the political parties to get the necessary information on the prospective voters," he said.
