SINGAPORE — A recent viral video of a parachutist free-falling led netizens to speculate about whether it was a military training accident.

But the Singapore Army clarified on Friday (13 May) that the free-fall jump was "part of a routine training on 6 May".

In a Facebook post, the army said it was aware of the video and "is appreciative of the concern and support for our parachutist’s well-being".

"We would like to assure everyone that all parachutists executed their jumps according to the prescribed drills, and landed at the designated drop zone safely," the army added.

On Thursday, news site Stomp posted the video on its Facebook page with the following caption, "My friend caught this video of what appears to be our serviceman free falling all the way down around Seletar area on May 6 at around 9.50am.

"The rest of the parachutists seem okay. Hope the serviceman is okay."

The video has since garnered over 77,000 views.
