KUALA LUMPUR, March 14 — Statements made by PAS defending Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will backfire on the Islamist party, a party lawmaker said today.

Pokok Sena MP Datuk Mahfuz Omar reasoned that the recent statement made by PAS Youth Chief Nik Abduh Nik Aziz supporting Najib was detrimental to public support.

“PAS should isolate itself, we should not be seen being close to Najib. Nik Abduh’s statement shows that he is close to Najib.

“I hope they don’t destroy PAS’ name with statements like this. This destroys PAS’ image and name,” he told reporters when met at Parliament today.

Nik Abduh was reported to have defended Najib recently, claiming the current problems the nation faced was inherited from former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s time.
