JOHOR BARU: The Penang DAP lawmaker, who called for the dissolution of Pas is not knowledgeable enough about Islam and does not have a full understanding of the Pas struggle.
Pas Ulama chief Datuk Mahfodz Mohamed said that DAP’s Bukit Bendera MP Zairil Khir Johari was not right to say that Pas does not desire victory in any general election.
Mahfodz, who is Johor Pas commissioner, said that Pas was always consistent, as it has remained with its struggles to seek worldly victory as well as blessings from Allah.
“As a Muslim, Zairil should have beliefs like all Muslims. He is asking for Pas to be dissolved because Pas does not want to win in the elections and merely wants to seek Allah’s blessings. We (Pas) want both.
“Since 1951, we have upheld our struggles unlike other parties, which have been divided,” he said in a press conference at the Johor Pas headquarters.
Zairil had said in a blog post that it was “pointless” for Pas to remain a political party if it was interested in only the afterlife instead of winning the general election.
He also said that Pas deviated from its original struggles and claimed that the party was now an advisor to Umno.
On another matter, Mahfodz said the party did not endorse a group claiming to be Pas supporters, who had gathered yesterday, to show their support for the party president over his decision to sever ties with DAP, outside the Masjid Jamek in Gelang Patah.
He said a report was lodged by the Gelang Patah Pas division head Sallehuddin Mohd Dahiran at the Iskandar Puteri police headquarters at 9.47pm last night to deny that any Pas members were involved in the gathering.
