PCG suspends shipping activities in 'Agaton' affected areas

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has suspended the shipping activities in areas in Mindanao that were placed under signal number 1 because of Tropical Depression "Agaton" as the number of stranded passengers has already reached 9,291.

According to PCG spokesperson Commander Armand Balilo, these areas are Surigao del Norte including Siargao Islands, Surigao del Sur, Dinagat Islands, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Davao Oriental, and Compostela Valley.

"PCG units in the whole Mindanao have been alerted to include deployable response group, medical teams and rescue swimmers, safety inspectors to monitor port activities and fishing communities in the area," Balilo said in a text message.

The stranded passengers are in Bicol, Central Visayas, and Northern Mindanao areas.

The National Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) also warned residents of landslides and flash floods.
