PCS 2021 Spring Split postponed to 19 Feb due to coronavirus
The Pacific Championship Series (PCS), the competitive circuit for League of Legends (LoL) in Southeast Asia, will be postponing its start date for the 2021 Spring Split season to 19 February, due to health and safety concerns with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
In a statement released on Friday (22 January), Riot Games said it was postponing the start date “in the interest of the well being and safety for our players and staff”. The 2021 PCS Spring Split was originally slated to start on 5 February.
“Our teams in the region have been strictly observing the mandates of local authorities, however, stringent travel restrictions and local lockdowns implemented to mitigate the spread of the virus have led to the season postponement,” Riot Games said.
This is now the second time that the PCS’ season start was delayed by the coronavirus. Its inaugural season was originally planned to launch on 8 February last year, with the start of the season being pushed to the end of that month.
“Our goal is to resume play as soon as it is appropriate and safe, and we will be sharing more news about the team roster and schedule as soon as we can,” said Riot Games.
The PCS is the result of the merger between the LoL Master Series as well as the LoL SEA Tour and has ten teams from Taiwan, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand participating in the league.
