PDEA-6 To Stay Vigilant

24 December 2012

ILOILO CITY, Iloilo - The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA-6) is expecting drug personalities in Western Visayas to keep a low profile this holiday season.

Atty. Ronnie Delicana, PDEA-6 acting regional director, disclosed that it is unlikely that drug pushers and drug peddlers will be busy during Christmas and New Year.

''Like many others, I am sure they will also be spending time with their families,'' Delicana said.

With this strong likelihood, illegal drug trade and illegal drug use in the region will temporarily be on a low for almost a week.

''That's what we're expecting, but it doesn't mean that all illegal drug activities will come to a complete stop,'' Delicana said, even as he clarified that PDEA-6 will not be lax in the days leading to Christmas and New Year.

''We will continue to conduct anti-drug operations,'' he said.

Last December 20, PDEA-6 nabbed a drug personality in Iloilo City who has included in the agency's watch list.

Safiro Mamarion, 30, was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Jaro district. Recovered from the suspect were four sachets of a substance believed to be marijuana.

''Just because it's a long holiday, it doesn't mean PDEA will be sleeping,'' Delicana said. (Tara Yap)
