Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Director Isidro Lapeña on Get it Straight with Daniel Razon
MANILA — Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Director Isidro Lapeña believes that there is a big possibility that the problems on illegal drugs will stop under the Duterte administration.
“It is doable. We have people that are interested in addressing drugs. Our problem is intact. That was manifested in Mayor Duterte’s election to become president,” Director Lapeña said.
In an interview on the program “Get it Straight with Daniel Razon,” the PDEA chief said that the agency is now undergoing internal cleansing.
In fact, at least five agency personnel have undergone investigation.
Lapeña said it would be a grave offense to have personnel within the agency involved in illegal drugs.
“If you tested positive of shabu that is dismissal from service. I will not even allow you to resign in the process of investigation,” he said.
In relation to the Duterte administrations’ campaign against illegal drugs, PDEA supports the proposal to just appoint barangay officials if the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections were postponed.
“I agree and support the President, the reason, especially now we are going barangays, we call it barangay drug clearing program. [How is this barangay drug clearing program?] We go to barangays and clear the barangay that are drug-affected barangays,” Lapeña said.
Based on the data of the PDEA, with the 42,036 barangays nationwide, 47 percent or about 19,000 barangays are currently affected by illegal drugs. — Nel Maribojoc | UNTV News & Rescue
