Pedestrian struck, killed by SUV near Likas

KOTA KINABALU: A 62-year-old man was killed when he was hit by a sport utility vehicle while crossing the road with his wife near SM Shan Tao, Likas, this morning.


Lee Thien Yu, a former businessman, died on the spot due to severe head and body injuries in the 6.14am incident along Jalan Tuaran.


The victim's wife, who was walking in front of him, was unhurt.


It was learnt that the couple was trying to cross the road to get to a bus stop located on the other side of the stretch.


The victim's wife managed to get across seconds before the Toyota Fortuner, heading towards the city centre from Inanam, slammed into the victim.


Police have so far detained the 37-year-old driver for questioning and classified the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
