Penang drug syndicate busted, RM80,000 in drugs seized


GEORGE TOWN: Police crippled a drug trafficking syndicate with the arrest of three local men and a Lao woman in the northeast district here, recently.

The arrests were made during two raids which also saw RM80,000 worth of drugs seized.

Deputy Police Chief DCP Datuk Roslee Chik said the police team received a tip-off and arrested the four, aged between 23 and 53, at an apartment at Jalan Pantai Sinaran, Gelugor here, at 9.15pm on Thursday.

"We seized several plastic packets of drugs containing heroin and ecstasy pills with a street value of RM42,575.

"At 3.30am the next day, one of the suspects led the raiding party to a drug processing lab at a shophouse in Lebuh Melayu, where drugs worth RM37,800 were found," he said at a press conference at the Penang Police Headquarters, Jalan Penang here, today.

Two foreign cars, a local-made car and three high-powered motorcycles were also seized during the second raid.

The syndicate is believed to have trafficked drugs in the local market for the past six months.

The suspects have been remanded until May 4 under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for trafficking dangerous drugs.
