Last week, Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, shared the happy news that they're expecting their first child. Taking to Instagram, Eugenie posted the cutest photo of a pair of bear-shaped slippers, and wrote: "Jack and I are so excited for early 2021..." alongside a little baby emoji.

We're still a good few months away from the arrival of baby Brooksbank, and so all the details remain a complete mystery. But that doesn't mean the general public hasn't already got ahead of itself, trying to predict what the newborn will be called. And according to the odds, there are some very firm suggestions that people seem pretty confident about.

Betting intelligence site Mybettingsites.co.uk has assessed the odds, and concluded that Arthur is the name most people believe Eugenie and Jack will settle on - despite the fact that the baby's sex hasn't actually been confirmed by the couple (and they may not even know what they're having themselves). Arthur has grown quickly in popularity as a baby name in recent years; it ranked 4th most common boy's name in 2019 according to the Office for National Statistics' (ONS) most recent data, with 4,211 babies being given the name last year.

Regardless of the royal baby's unknown gender, it seems the public has a strong hunch it'll be a boy, with some bookmakers having already suspended betting on it after odds reached 1/5, equating to an implied probability of an 83.3% chance.

There are a couple of female names in the mix with higher odds, too, though. And it's clear that the favourites ares the same kind of regal names that crop up every time a royal pregnancy is announced. Here are the most predicted names for Princess Eugenie's baby so far:

  1. Arthur (5/1)

  2. Albert (7/1)

  3. James (7/1)

  4. Edward (7/1)

  5. Alice (8/1)

  6. Oliver (10/1)

  7. Victoria (10/1)

  8. Elizabeth (12/1)

  9. Henry (12/1)

  10. Hugo (12/1)

Because people clearly like to bet on every little thing when there's a royal baby on the way, there have also been some guesses about exactly when the newborn will make an appearance. February is currently the clear favourite, with March a little less popular in the guessing games. All we've actually been told is that it's due in "early 2021".

But whenever the baby arrives - and whatever it's called - we're just excited to catch a glimpse of the youngest royal, who will arrive into the world eleventh in line to the throne.
