People are shocked Kourtney Kardashian weighs 98 pounds — but they shouldn't be

Kourtney Kardashian recently revealed how much she weighs, and people have feelings about it.

In a deleted scene from Sunday’s episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, the mom of three shares that she weighs 98 pounds. “Guess what. I gained a pound. I’m 98 [pounds],” she says, before pointing out that her 8-year-old son, Mason, is 62 pounds.

Naturally, people are commenting about this on social media.

This isn’t the first time people have given Kardashian’s weight the side-eye. In April 2015, she revealed on Instagram that she weighed 116 pounds while trying to get in shape after having her third child, Reign. “I’m 5 feet tall, so everyone relax,” she wrote. “I’m on a workout kick, trying to bring some Monday motivation.”


Her ex Scott Disick also famously bashed Kardashian for her post-baby body after giving birth to their second child. In an episode of Kim & Kourtney Take Miami Disick discovered that Kardashian weighed 115 and said, “Do you know what you’re supposed to weigh for your average weight for your height?” Adding, “I feel like 93 is the dream.” Later in the episode when Kourtney was upset over his comments she said, “I’m trying to do this the healthy way.” To which Disick replied, “Do it the healthy way, just do it faster.”

Kardashian is now known as the healthy eater of her family and regularly talks about how she follows a dairy- and gluten-free diet. But despite all the criticism, it’s important to point out that Kardashian’s current height and weight actually puts her into a “normal” body mass index (BMI). It should also be noted that at 115 pounds, Kardashian still had a normal BMI.

“People need to leave Kourtney alone,” women’s health expert Jennifer Wider, MD, tells Yahoo Lifestyle. Not only is Kardashian’s weight considered normal for her height, it’s really no one else’s business, Wider points out.

Weight can be influenced by a lot of different things, including diet, exercise, muscle tone, and underlying health conditions, Wider says, and it’s just plain wrong to criticize someone else’s weight unless you’re that person’s doctor.

Not only that, weight is just factor in a person’s health and doesn’t tell the whole story, Jessica Cording, a New York City RD, tells Yahoo Lifestyle. “Some people may be healthy at a lower or higher weight than someone else of the same height,” she says. “We all have different needs and are working with different challenges in our life, so it’s really hard to know just by looking what is going on with someone.”

Weight also fluctuates over the course of each day, Beth Warren, RDN, founder of Beth Warren Nutrition and author of Living a Real Life With Real Food, tells Yahoo Lifestyle. “Changes in sleep patterns and bowel movements also contribute to weight changes,” she says. “As the day goes on, having more food in the gut, during or what’s left after digestion, adds to your weight. Because of this, weight alone is not the best indicator to use as an assessment of health.”

In general, Cording recommends that people focus on how energetic they feel, how well their immune system seems to be working, and how stable they feel in general, rather than a number on the scale.

However, if you’re concerned that your weight may be too high or too low, check in with a doctor or registered dietitian. A professional can help you gauge where you should be and offer tips on how to get there or how to maintain a healthy weight, Cording says.

Bottom line: Kardashian’s weight is nobody’s business but her own. But, if you must know, it’s totally fine for her size.
