IPOH: Perak Barisan Nasional had drawn up a list of potential candidates for the 14th general elections.
Menteri Besar and Perak BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir however said the list had yet to be finalised.
"We are still evaluating and we (state component party leaders) are meeting from time to time on this.
"We must get the right candidates who are likable and popular among the people as well as those who are willing to work harder to ensure our win.
"There is a set of criteria in selecting the candidates. For instance, excellent academic background alone is not enough," he told reporters after chairing the weekly exco meeting here yesterday.
He said some of the wakil rakyat (people's representatives) have voiced their intention not to contest and give way to others.
"We will put this into consideration. We have to also take into account the wishes of voters who still want the same candidate.
"However, the final say on the candidates lie in the hands of party president (Datuk Seri Najib Razak) who has his own methods of selecting candidates and gain information on them," he said.
He said there were also party leaders who had previously lost in general elections but were interested in contesting.
Zambry said the party has started making preparations including strengthening the election machinery, re-checking voters list and other groundwork.
