IPOH: Perak is set to host the national-level Orang Asli Day celebration in October.
The celebration, which will be officiated by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, will be organised by the Rural Development Ministry with the cooperation of the Perak government.
Rural Development Minister, Rina Mohd Harun said the celebration, which will be held in Tapah, is being organised in conjunction with the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples.
“The ministry, with the cooperation of the state government, will for the first time organise the national-level Orang Asli Day, which will be held in Tapah in October.
“The ministry is awaiting for the final confirmation of the dates from the prime minister, who will officiate the event,” she said.
She was speaking at a press conference with Perak Menteri Besar, Ahmad Faizal Azumu, after paying a courtesy visit to the MB’s office here on Tuesday.
The national-level Orang Asli Day celebration replaces the previous Orang Asli Carnival, and will be organised on a larger scale.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Faizal thanked the ministry and the Federal government for choosing Perak as the event host. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
