Perak influenza outbreak: Cases rise to 438 students from 5 schools

IPOH: The Perak Health Department said 438 students in the state have been found to be suffering from an influenza-like illness, as of last night.

"The number is a slight increase from 414 students (on Saturday)," said the department in a statement.

The affected students comprise 225 from Sekolah Menengah Raja Perempuan Taayah and 115 from Sekolah Tunku Abdul Rahman (STAR).

Also affected are three students of Sekolah Kebangsaan Klebang Jaya, 82 from Sekolah Menengah Abdul Rahman Talib (SMART) in Teluk Intan and 13 from Kolej Vokasional Slim River.

According to the statement, 304 students have been quarantined at their hostels and three at a hospital ward, while the rest are at home.

Meanwhile, four samples have tested positive for Influenza A (H3) and six for Influenza B. -- Bernama
