Perak influenza outbreak: Cases rise to 465 students from six schools


IPOH: Another 27 students from three schools here were confined to their dormitory after displaying symptoms of an influenza-like illness, making it a total of 465 students in the state currently infected by the outbreak.

Perak Health Department in a statement today said a total of 25 new cases were reported from Sekolah Izzudin Shah while each from Sekolah Menengah Raja Perempuan Taayah and Sekolah Menengah Abdul Rahman Talib.

"The number is a slight increase from 438 students (on Sunday). So far, four samples have tested positive for Influenza A (H3) and nine for Influenza B," said the statement.

To date, the affected students comprised 226 from Sekolah Menengah Raja Perempuan Taayah and 115 from Sekolah Tunku Abdul Rahman (STAR).

Also affected were three students of Sekolah Kebangsaan Klebang Jaya, 83 from Sekolah Menengah Abdul Rahman Talib (SMART) in Teluk Intan, 13 from Kolej Vokasional Slim River and 25 from Sekolah Izzudin Shah.
