Perkasa's Ibrahim Ali to announce new political party

KUALA LUMPUR: Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali and former Umno supreme council member Datuk Khalid Yunus are forming a new political party today.

A press conference is expected to held today at 3pm to announce and launch the name of the new party.

Ibrahim was Pasir Mas member of parliament in Kelantan, which he held from 2008 to 2013.

Khalid was a former deputy minister under the previous Barisan Nasional government.

Ibrahim formed Perkasa in 2008, with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad serving as its adviser.

The group was established to act as the protectors of Article 153 of the Federal Constitution to defend the right of Bumiputras. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
