Peru destroys more than 30 tons of seized drugs

According to Interior Minister Jose Elice, 30.155 tons were incinerated. Local media later reported the number of drugs destroyed to be just over 33 tons.

More than 70% of the confiscated drugs was made up of cocaine. Other drugs included marijuana, opium and ecstasy.

75% of Peru's cocaine is produced in a region called Valle de los Rios Apurimac, Ene y Mantaro (VRAEM), a lawless mountainous region.
