Petcube launches pet-oriented smart speakers with Alexa integration

Petcube, the creator of pet-friendly connected cameras that record your dog or cat while you're away from home, has revealed the Bites 2 and Play 2 smart cameras -- equipped with Alexa for the first time.

On Monday, the smart home device company with a passion for pet-oriented technology Petcube added two new products to their dog- and cat-friendly connected camera portfolio: The Bites 2 and Play 2 smart cameras.

Both devices are derivatives of existing cameras in the company's product lineup; however, because each has been integrated with Amazon's Alexa voice assistant, they're more like treat- and laser-equipped smart speakers than simply smart cameras.

Thanks to the Alexa integration, whose usage is optional, owners can benefit from all the abilities in the voice assistant's massive skill library like playing music, getting updates on the news, and ordering food.

While both devices allow pet owners to watch and talk to their pets as well as monitor their homes remotely, the Bites line of cameras can launch treats at the tap of a button on your smartphone, and the Play cameras are integrated with a play laser. The latest version of each device -- in addition to having Alexa for the first time -- offer higher quality video, support 5 GHz wi-fi, and come with an improved audio experience with echo cancellation and noise suppression.

The Petcube Bites 2 and Play 2 smart cameras are available only on Amazon for $199.
