Petronas says Malaysia Pengerang refinery to start commercial production by end-2019

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 21 (Reuters) - Malaysian state oil company Petronas said its massive refinery and petrochemicals complex in Johor state will start commercial operations as planned by the end of the year, after reports said that it had been delayed.

The refinery's atmospheric residue desulphurisation (ARDS) unit, which was affected by a fire in April, will begin operation by mid-2020, Petronas told Reuters in an email.

The Pengerang Refining and Petrochemical (PrefChem) project, a joint venture between Petronas and Saudi Aramco, will house a 300,000-barrel-per-day refinery and a 1.2-million-tonne-per-year steam cracker.
