BANGI: Resolving flash floods and traffic congestion form the core focus of Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) manifesto for the Balakong by-election. These issues are being targeted within the three promises put forward by PH candidate Wong Siew Ki in her bid to attract voters in the Sept 8 by-election. The DAP member promised to work closely with local authorities to ensure upgrade and improvement of infrastructure in the constituency to resolve flash floods and traffic congestion there. She said the cooperation would cover the ongoing projects such as upgrading the flood-risk riverbank of Sungai Balak, Kampung Baru Balakong. “We also seek to create a recreational facility for residents of Kampung Baru as well as upgrade and widen Jalan Balakong-Batu 11 to address the traffic jams. “Besides that, the drains at Taman Midah would also be upgraded to prevent flash floods in the area,” she said after launching the PH manifesto here today. Wong admitted that there is no “one-man show” with her as she would need to cooperate with local councillors to tackle daily issues faced by the people. “I will also be discussing with the Kajang Municipal Council to widen the road junction between Bandar Tun Hussein Onn and Grand Saga Expressway,” she said. For the second manifesto promise, Wong reiterated her commitment to strengthen community development by increasing cooperation among members of the community. For the third manifesto promise, she vowed to boost community activities and uphold the identity of Kampung Baru. “For community development, I will forge close cooperation with local councillors to strengthen the Residents Representative Council (MPP). “The MPP is already around previously, but its role was not strengthened. The local councillors were present but not many programmes were made. “Therefore, we will come up with more suitable activities especially for youths and women to develop a harmonious and close-knit community,” she said. She also seek to expand cultural and historical programmes to elevate the identity of Balakong. “Among others, Pesta Balakong (Balakong Festival) which had been established in 2014, would be rebranded and its events increased for the local community as well as attract tourists,” she said.
