Philipp Plein makes a move on the fragrance industry

Luxury fashion label Philipp Plein is launching a fragrance line.

The brand, which is headed by the German designer of the same name, is making its entry into the category with ‘The $kull,' a new perfume for men and women. Created by master perfumer Alberto Morillas, the scent is launching exclusively in Philipp Plein boutiques and on

"I am a dreamer and a believer," Plein told WWD of his latest venture. "I dreamt of launching a perfume years ago, I just wanted to wait for the right moment and the right partners." He added: "My first perfume had to be a skull. This iconic symbol irradiates the Philipp Plein identity, shining on my clothing and standing out in every single store."

According to WWD, the scent features spicy accents, including notes of pepper, cardamom, leather accords and Bourbon vanilla. It comes presented in a skull-shaped flacon made from black lacquered glass and will reportedly roll out in select global department stores from January.

Plein is not alone in focusing on the fragrance sector -- the fashion designer Thom Browne also launched his first-ever series of six scents this year, while the house of Celine launched an ‘haute parfumerie' scent collection in October.
