Phillip Schofield returned to front a long-awaited new season of The Cube tonight (October 19) and now, the stakes of the show are higher than ever, as contestants take on the Perspex box in the hopes of winning a whopping one million pounds.

Fans were chuffed to see it back on the small screen, given that it's been off-air – aside from an earlier celebrity special –for the last five years, but they had one surprising niggle about its first episode... It supposedly had a frustrating amount of ads.

While the breaks seemed to happen in the regular slots when it comes to terrestrial programming, many viewers at home were adamant that they went on longer than usual and claimed that this made it hard for them to follow the episode.

"3 x 4 minute Ad breaks during #TheCube enough already," one disgruntled tuner-inner wrote on Twitter, as another joked: "Now for an hour of ad breaks with a little bit of #thecube inbetween #TheMillionPoundCube."

"Absolutely impossible to sit down and watch #TheCube with the adverts every 3 seconds. These game shows now are more about making money for ITV than giving it away," a third added, while a fourth claimed they were getting "50% adverts, 50% show".

"Hang fire, the advert break was like 10 seconds ago!!" another said.

During the episode, brothers Adam and Jon and twin sisters Priya and Shreya tried to outsmart a bunch of the Cube's games. The former duo walked away with £10,000, while Priya and Shreya will presumably return in tomorrow night's instalment to potentially top up their existing winnings.

The Million Pound Cube continues tomorrow night (Tuesday, October 20) at 9pm on ITV.
