Phoebe Dynevor says we'll see a new side to Daphne when her Bridgerton character returns in the second season of the hit Netflix show.

“Season one was [Daphne] coming of age,” Dynevor told Yahoo while promoting her new film The Colour Room.

“Season two sees her as a woman and being a mother and a wife, and also her own person. She’s grown and it was lovely to play her from that angle of knowing herself a little bit more.”

While season two of what Netflix described as its “biggest series ever” (before Squid Game came along) is already in the can, no date launch date has been officially announced.

But no doubt the 82 million households which tuned into the show in its first 28 days online will be hoping there’s not long to wait. Regé-Jean Page, who played her lover and then husband Simon Basset in the show, will not return which suggests new mother Daphne will face a tricky time without him in the sophomore season.

Aside from its racy storylines, one of the most popular aspects of the series was its elaborately spectacular costumes. In The Colour Room, Dynevor plays 1920s ceramics designer Clarice Cliff who lived in Stoke-On-Trent, at the heart of The Potteries. The actor replaced those elegant 19th century gowns with a more practical style, which provided a splash of vivid colour against the gloomy industrialised landscape.

“That was always the route we wanted to take with Clarice,” said Dynevor. “She would be the bold one, the one who wore a splash of orange when everybody else was wearing grey and I loved that about her. She was taking risks with her clothes.

"But also it was great to be wearing those boots – she wanted comfort first and foremost but added the colour, especially that orange that we see her use so often. It was about comfort, but she had fun with what she wore as well. It’s always nice being comfortable in a costume.”

The film follows the working class aspiring designer as she strives to break away from factory work and design ceramics. Despite numerous setbacks, her talent for colour and shapes impresses factory owner Colley Shorter (Matthew Goode) and eventually launches her own range. In the middle of the Great Depression, she not only ensures the factory’s survival but becomes a household name in her own right.

In addition to Dynevor and Goode, the film boasts an impressive British cast including David Morrissey, Kerri Fox and Darci Shaw.

The Colour Room is released in cinemas and on Sky Cinema on 12 November.
