Japan 0 - 1 Costa Rica

Costa Rica capitalised on a costly turnover from Japan in the 81st minute to blow Group E wide open.

Captain Keysher Fuller curled the only goal into the back of the net to secure the win for Los Ticos, just days after they were hammered by Spain 7-0.

The two teams are levelled with three points after two matches with qualification to the knockout rounds to be decided in the final group games.

Japan is playing in its seventh consecutive World Cup but has lost each time they made the round of 16. Costa Rica was a quarterfinalist in 2014 in Brazil.

Meanwhile, Japan is still being praised for its act of cleanliness after matches, a tradition that dates from their first World Cup appearance in 1998.

Belgium 0 - 2 Morocco

Morocco registered a huge upset by shocking Belgium 2-0 in Group F, only their third win and first in 24 years in the World Cup.

Belgium hasn't lost a group game in the World Cup since 1994, but now their hope for qualification for the last 16 has been severely dented.

There was a bizarre moment when Morocco's starting goalkeeper, who was named in the lineup, came out with the team and sang the national anthem before kickoff, but the reserve keeper was in front of goal when the game started.

Belgium's loss did not go down well with some fans who resorted to rioting in several cities in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Spain 1 - 1 Germany

Germany got a lifeline after a draw with Spain in Group E.

Spain was on course to book a place in the knockouts after an Alvaro Morata goal. Niclas Fullkrug equalised for the Germans to salvage a point.

Germany is still rooted at the bottom of their group but boosted their hopes for a place in the last 16.

Germany must now defeat Costa Rica and hope Spain beat Japan to advance.
