The Singapore Under-22 football team needed an own goal from Brunei’s Khalid Wassadisalleh to eke out a 1-0 victory in their final match of the 2017 SEA Games campaign at the Selayang Stadium on Wednesday (23 August).
The game, which was a dead rubber match given that both teams had been out of the running to make the knock-out stages, was dominated by Singapore.
However, the Young Lions were unable to score thanks to a combination of great goalkeeping from Brunei’s Ishyra Asmin and the Singapore side’s profligacy in front of goal.
In the end, Khalid’s blunder in the 75th minute was enough to give Singapore the narrow win, which saw the Young Lions finishing third in Group A behind Malaysia and Myanmar.
