Additional Starmobile Diamond X1 specs surface

While we're still missing a price and a definite release date, additional details on the Starmobile octa-core Android phone-tablet that will go on sale sometime in January 2014 have surfaced. (See also: What's special about the Starmobile Diamond X1?)

The Starmobile Diamond X1 is indeed shaping up to be a generously sized powerhouse with respectable photography chops, even in low light.

Besides boasting a six-inch display and eight CPUs, we now know that it will feature a MediaTek MT6592 chip operating at 1.7GHz; Mali-450 graphics; 2GB of RAM; 18- and 8-megapixel backside-illuminated rear and front cameras; and a 7mm-thick frame. It will run Android Jelly Bean, which is unsurprising considering that majority of Android devices still have the previous generation of the mobile operating system.

Starmobile has kept mum on the Diamond X1's battery, which probably suggests it will be anything but extraordinary. We're probably looking at something in the 2,000mAh range. If that's the case, we wouldn't be too optimistic with regard to battery life.

Another octa-core phone that's going to be available in the Philippines in January is the ThL T100 (aka Monkey King 2). It is a P12,999 five-inch, eight-core device that's already available for pre-order at Novo7 Tech stores for P12,999. We would love to pit that against Starmobile's.
