Dumaguete attempts biggest human peace sign

To call attention to the global need for peace, thousands gathered in Dumaguete City Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, to form what they hope would be the world's largest human peace sign.

About 5,000 participants gathered in Dumaguete's Perdices Memorial Coliseum for the "Light Up For Peace" formation seen to enter the Guinness Book of World Records.

Participants included students from Dumaguete and neighboring towns, members the Philippine Army's 302nd Brigade and 79th Infantry Battalion as well as civil society and non-government organizations.

The mass movement for peace will hopefully "raise awareness and empathy for peace into action," Philippine Army Capt. Anacito Naz was quoted in the government's news agency as saying.

A similar event has been arranged in September 2011, although only attended by 1,200 participants at the ampitheater of Dumaguete's Silliman University.
