Manila hostage tragedy: A year after

On August 23, 2010 irate cop Rolando Mendoza held hostage a busload of foreign tourists as he demanded that he be returned to service. An attempt to save the hostages appeared futile, as people from all over the world watched everything unfold on live television. The stand-off lasted for 12 hours and left nine people, including Mendoza, dead.
