Model Diaries: Inside the life of a fashion week model
Decadent dessert, impromptu dance parties and loads of masala chai... Getting through five manic days of fashion week is no piece of cake but model Rikee Chatterjee does it like a pro. Vogue catches up with her at the Summer/Resort 2015 edition of Lakme Fashion Week for a peek into her #fashionweeklife.
MODEL ROUTINE
I do three shows a day, and two hours before each show get spent in hair and makeup. We are assigned to alternate shows, unless a designer specifically requests a model. In that case, sometimes I end up doing back-to-back shows. We also have five days of fittings before LFW begins, which is really hectic... I'm talking 13-hour days.
DOWN TIME
When we get a short break, it's more like party time. We put on some music in the green room, some girls will dance a bit, some girls will be exercising. It's like a mini party.
DE-STRESS MODE
I like to step outside and find a quiet corner in the sun, even if it's just for five or ten minutes. It calms me down.
ENERGY BOOSTER
There's a special masala chai backstage that I love. I'm totally dependent on it.
FASHION WEEK DIET
I'm not a meat person but I eat it because it gives me energy. Generally speaking, I'm not into healthy eating at all. I can't eat salad. I eat a lot of junk food! I need to eat pani puri everyday. During fashion week, that's one thing I miss.
ON REPEAT
Right now I'm obsessed with The Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack. It makes me happy every time I hear a song from it.
SKIN SECRETS
I don't like to use fancy products, because they're filled with chemicals. I use simple products like Vaseline; it's great for puffy eyes and dark circles when you haven't had much rest. It does wonders. And I drink a lot of water!
RUNWAY ADDICTION
It's the energy that brings me back each season. I feel disappointed when fashion week is over because I love walking the ramp. That's where my heart is. It's tiring but I love the hectic pace.
