Pictured: 58,000-ton cruise ship dominates skyline in tiny Cornish town
The Vasco de Gama dominates the small Cornish town of Fowey which has become a regular port of call for cruise liners from all over the world.
The 58,000-ton ship, operated by German company Nicko Cruises, carries 1,258 passengers, causing the 2,315-strong community to swell during stopovers.
Last year, the Spirit of Adventure pulled into Fowey, becoming the largest cruise ship to ever drop anchor in the town’s picturesque harbour.
Opinion was split. Some, such as Paul Thomas, Fowey’s harbour master, welcomed the arrival of the Saga ship, hailing it as “big deal” for tourism in the area.
However, there were cries of dismay from other corners, with some complaining that the ship was an eyesore and others expressing anger about pollution being pumped into the air.
