Pillion dies in accident after jacket gets caught in the motorcycle sprocket, father escapes with minor injuries

BUTTERWORTH: A man died while his father escaped with minor injuries in an accident at the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (BKE) yesterday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as pillion rider Teh Chin Tatt, 35.

The incident is believed to have happened when Chin Tatt’s jacket got caught in the motorcycle sprocket, causing the machine to skid.

Seberang Prai Selatan district police chief Assistant Commissioner Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said Chin Tatt died at the scene due to serious injuries while his father, Teh Bah KeChee, 69, was slightly injured.

“Our investigation showed the incident happened when the motorcycle was heading towards Butterworth.

“When they approached Km14.8 of the BKE, Chin Tatt’s jacket got caught in the sprocket and the motorcycle chain causing the machine to skid,” he said.

The remains were sent to Seberang Jaya Hospital for post-mortem.

“The post-mortem showed the deceased died as a result of head injury.

“The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he added. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
