MUAR, Feb 9 — The Registrar of Societies’ (RoS) investigation into Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) over alleged breach of its own constitution is transparent, Datuk Seri Najib Razak said today.
The prime minister said the investigation has no malicious intent, and should not be a problem since DAP, that was previously investigated previously, had been cleared.
“I don’t want to comment on behalf of the RoS, but if they can clear the DAP then it’s not a problem,” he said, referring to the investigation against DAP’s central executive committee re-election.
Najib made his remark at a Muar community event, and the handover of street lamps at Bukit Mor in Parit Jawa here today.
The reply came after PPBM president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday claimed of a plot behind complaints that the party had violated its own constitution.
Najib, who is also Umno president, advised PPBM not to blame others for the action taken by the RoS.
“If a party has its own constitution and can’t follow it, please look at your own members. Don’t point fingers at others,” he said.
The issue came about on Tuesday after Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi revealed that the RoS had received 249 complaints from PPBM members to date, and that the RoS was obliged to look into all of them.
Zahid, who is also Home Minister, added 47 out of the 249 complaints lodged claimed that the party had violated its constitution, as well as rules and regulations.
This comes after a group of PPBM members alleged that the RoS was deliberately delaying its investigations on Wednesday. They also claimed that documents presented as evidence had gone missing.
